Leslie Baumann, M.D. is the unique combination of doctor, professor and researcher. Dr. Baumann is both a Professor and the Director of the University of Miami Cosmetic medicine and Research Institute. Dr. Baumann founded the university's internationally recognized Cosmetic Center (UMCC) in 1997, the first university-run cosmetic research center in the United States. The center now combines cosmetic dermatology, facial plastics and oculoplastics and is focused on examining the role of genetics in skin aging and appearance.
This unprecedented combination of skills has led to Dr. Baumann’s status as a leading global expert in dermatology. Her academic responsibilities keep her at the forefront of cosmetic procedure and skin care research, while her clinical work affords the opportunity to refine and further investigate recommendations arising from the research findings. Since 2000, Dr. Baumann has been training international dermatologists on a monthly rotational basis, and working with them to gather skin typing data from around the world. These doctors, frequent contributors to the www.skintypesolutions.com web site, are also helping to get Dr. Baumann’s book, The Skin Type Solution, translated into many languages, with work on this currently underway in Brazil, Korea and China.
Dr. Baumann’s most recent and most notable research trials include the research trial that led to the approval of Botox for wrinkles, Hylaform, Hylaform Plus, Juvederm, DGE for wrinkles and the approval of Tri-Luma for melasma. She was active in the botulinum toxin trials of Myobloc and Reloxin as well. She has been researching the role of topical and injectable hyaluronic acid for over10 years.
In addition to Dr. Baumann's clinical, research and academic expertise, she is a published author. The Skin Type Solution, a "New York Times" bestseller nominated for the prestigious Books For A Better Life Award, introduces readers to Dr. Baumann’s revolutionary discovery of 16 different skin types and how to treat them. Her medical textbook, Cosmetic Dermatology: Principles and Practice , which is in its second edition, is the best selling cosmetic dermatology textbook in the world. The new edition will be available in 8 languages. She also writes a monthly column called "Cosmeceutical Critique" in Skin and Allergy News, a leading dermatology newspaper.
In her personal life, Dr. Baumann is a loving wife and mother of two sons who loves to travel, read, cook and play golf with her sons and husband. She is active in fundraising for Cancer Lifeline at Mt. Sinai hospital in Miami Beach.
